FEB-MAR 2015 LOOT
My packages came very sporadically the last 2 months due to the west coast strike and weather in NY. My average wait time of 2 weeks was extended to 7 weeks long which made me quite frustrated. I’ll try to give my initial thoughts on the loot and whether it was worth buying.
Boxes View:

Didn’t realize I bought this much until I piled it up! Agggghhhh…Need more self control!

ONLY FOR FANS – A decent figure but only buy if you are a fan of the show.
NOT RECOMMENDED – Not worth the money I paid for it.
Max Factory Samurai

I was on the fence about Samurai’s coloring never having owned the original. However, the more I looked at her in the user photos the more I liked her!
She’s a beautiful big figure with lots of spunk. Max Factory has out did themselves. One of my favorite figures in this loot post!
Verdict: MUST BUY
Availability: Common
Best Place to Buy: Amazon.jp/AmiAmi, 8000 JPY
Honoka from GSC

Initially, I wasn’t really into this Honoka since her pose and base looked rather boring to me. Despite myself, I fell hard for Love Live and wanted to get a scale of one of my waiifus! The details are done quite well but she is quite small for a 1/8. She’ll look strange without her sisters Muse idols.
Verdict: ONLY FOR FANS
Availability: Common
Best Place to Buy: Amazon.jp/Mandarake, 6000-7000 JPY
Kotori Nendoroid
Kotori was my second nendoroid. I was too impulsive and bought her for 5000 JPY from Mandarake with the special bonus bases and extensions. I should have waited for AmiAmi to restock as she was about $15 cheaper soon after.
Kotori looks very pale and has a hard time staying on her base even by adjusting the stand. There are a lot of painting issues on her (fingers and arm different flesh colors). Coupled with the fact that she comes with no accessories and current asking price of 4500 yen, not really worth it. After seeing Kotori, I’ve taken most of the LL Nendo’s off my wishlist.
Verdict: NOT RECOMMENDED
Availability: Less Common
Best Place to Buy: Mandarake, 4500 yen
Honoka & Honoka by Furyu

I love the Love Live series to death and these prize figures were very well made. I bought Nico and Maki and wanted to get the entire set. Even though the prize figures are well made, they do have painting errors. Honoka in her maid outfit had more errors than the uniform version.
Verdict: ONLY FOR FANS
Availability: Common
Best Place: Mandarake, 1500 yen each
Noizomi & Kotori by Fuyru

Noizomi is really gorgeous. I don’t have any pictures of the back of her but the shading on her hair is done nicely. Kotori looks good but again has painting errors and a more awkward pose.
Verdict: ONLY FOR FANS
Availability: Common
Best Place: Mandarake, 1500 yen each
Rin & Hanoyo by Furyu

I had a hard time obtaining these two. Every time one popped up in Manda I would add it to my cart only to find out later that she was sold out. I finally ended up paying a slightly higher price for them through a seller I found on eBay. Furyu keeps up the good work with these two. Rin had a bit more painting errors but overall sculpt is captured very well in both figures.
Verdict: ONLY FOR FANS
Availability: Rare
Best Place: eBay, 2500-3500 yen each

I was given the Umi folder on the left from the eBay Seller as a freebie. Nico file came with Maki and Nico Furyu figures. They’re really pretty!
Eli & Umi by Furyu

While not a fan of either of their poses, both these girls turned out ok. Umi has a bit of a weird face IMO. Painting and sculpt were rougher than the other girls in the set. I can’t complain much because they were 500 yen cheaper than the others. Somehow I found a Umi for only 800 yen.
Verdict: ONLY FOR FANS
Availability: Common
Best Place: Mandarake, 1000-1500 yen each

All the Muse members reunited in my makeshift stage!
Miku World is Mine

I was really anticipating this figure and had so much trouble tracking her down. I was set on trying to find the 2013 version with more green on her hair. Finally ordered her on Manda after compulsively checking the stock photos. She was labeled “USED” vs. “OPEN”.
Miku took the longest to arrive – 7 whole weeks. Combined with the long search, dampened my enjoyment of her quite a bit. When I opened her up, I was disappointed to find out I’d gotten the 2009 version. Big learning Manda uses stock photos so don’t even trust the picture. She was also very dirty and had paint stains on her arms which were not mentioned any where on Manda’s description. I’ve learned my lesson, I won’t buy anything that’s labeled Opened, Used from Manda again.
Miku is also hard to find a spot for since she takes so much space. It’s hard to display her properly so you can see all her beauty. I’m not sure I would buy her again if I saw her in person first.
Verdict: ONLY FOR FANS
Availability: Rare
Best Place: AmiAmi, Mandarake, MFC 8000-12000 JPY
Shirahoshi by Megahouse

I received Shirahoshi from my MFC friend who lives in the same city as me. I was not prepared for her giganticness! I was on the fence on whether I still wanted her but after I saw her in person, she is absolutely gorgeous. Everything from the scales on her tail to the details of her clothes are wonderful. The only annoying part is Luffy who keeps falling off.
Verdict: MUST BUY
Availability: Common
Best Place: Mandarake, AmiAmi, 5000-6000 JPY
Boa Wedding Version by Megahouse

Another purchase from my MFC Friend. Boa has grown on me. I love her little green necklace and the elegance of this figure. Unlike other BOA figures, her assets aren’t falling out all over. The lace veil was added for effect and did not come with the figure. If you like her design, I wouldn’t hesitate in buying her.
Verdict: ONLY FOR FANS
Availability: Common
Best Place: AmiAmi, Mandarake, MFC 6000-7000 JPY
Love Live Nendoroid Petits – SoreBoku version

I was very excited for this set as I adore Love Live! Each girl is made quite well but the assembly process is a pain in the butt. Trust me, your fingers will hurt afterwards. The add on accessories such as hats are also a pain to jam into their heads. The set is a bit pricey for petits so only get them if you love LL!
Verdict: ONLY FOR FANS
Availability: Common
Best Place: Amazon.jp, 6500-7000 JPY
Natsume by Alter

I tried watching a few episodes of Natsume’s Book of Friends but didn’t get very far. Another ‘he looks good’ buy for me. I have to say I am disappointed by his size. Even though the details and the base are made very well (as expected), I’m not sure I would buy this figure again if I saw him in person first.
Verdict: ONLY FOR FANS
Availability: UnCommon
Best Place: AmiAmi/Mandaarake, Fluctuates
Eli Ayase SoreBoku by Sega

I was so excited for this sculpt since there are few scale version of Eli. After receiving her, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of shading. The quality of the sega prize figures just don’t stack up to Furyu. Not sure I will be getting the rest of the figures in this line.
Verdict: ONLY FOR FANS
Availability: Common
Best Place: Mandarake, 1500-2000 JPY

Overvall, I am pretty happy with my loot. I will probably end up selling some things eventually but for now I will just enjoy them.

Yep, definitely there are guys who like the more innocent animes (which I am hugely thankful for). There's only so much of unreliastic frontal assets that I can take except for HOTD (which I know you like too).
Maybe I'll watch a couple more next time he's over to watch stuff o:
Oh yeah I don't like the pants, I wish she had like... little booty shorts or something instead. But the kitty-paw sash is just---- O wO!!!
Ahhhh yes HotD is my favorite manga! And definitely in my top 10 animes. But there ain't nothing wrong with people wanting something a bit more mellow/tame XD
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the layout and found it useful. I wanted to do something different then other bloggers. ^^
(Of course, I am speaking of the western audience, as I don't know much about the Japanese one, which is almost always quite different. Or maybe it is similar, for all I know, Japanese Love Live! fans could be mostly female.)
The core appeal, it seems, is basically "let's watch these girls be cute together and do cute things." Sort of like K-On!, but with a bit more substance (and more variety, Love Live! has more characters), in my impression.
This is a guess at best, but maybe a reason lots of girls are liking Love Live! is because it's just about the girls doing said cute things and it isn't structured around romance, like you said, which I know LOTS of girls get pretty sick of after a while!
That and since it's character-driven, the Love Live! girls are more well-rounded characters?
Oh well yeah, obviously anyone CAN watch something, but the fact of the matter is that there are certain types of things that tend to appeal more to one gender than the other. They do exist, but you're unlikely to find many male Free! fans, for instance.
Rin is a very spunky character and Tom boyish. I don't think there are too many animes that have girls with shorter hair. Maybe you should try a few more episodes. I usually give an anime three or four before deciding it's not for me. The alter figure of Rin is cute but I can't get over her pants! They remind me of marsh waders!

Yes, i did notice some subtle things about LL (Noizomi anyone?) but people can make their own conclusions/fantasies (nothing wrong with that). TBH I'm really surprised Love Live is actually made for guys given that none of the characters wear any skimpy outfits or is there any blatant fan service. In the west, this would have 'girly' show written all over it but I know the Japanese think differently.
LOL. I agree on the Free comment. How many guys want to watch other guys take off their shirts all the time? I guess I should watch the show once to see why people like it.
I try to take at least a cursory look at most popular stuff. Even if I don't think I'll like it, that way I at least have an idea of what's up with it instead of having no idea whatsoever.
I like the art style and though 1 episode isn't enough for too many personality details, just at a glance I liked Rin the most, I cannot resist a girl with short hair! I mean look at this face! s1.tsuki-board....
Well if you think about it, K-On! also didn't have skimpy outfits/blatant fanservice and it was popular with a male audience. Different personality types, since some guys like ecchi things and others would much prefer something more innocent. (Incidentally, K-On! ALSO has lots of yuri doujinshi.)
I watched some of Free! because my best friend likes it a lot. It was too fluffy for my liking. But also none of the guys are really my type either. For shows like that, essentially for any character-driven series really, having a character that you are really attracted to is everything and you won't get as much out of it if you don't have one that you latch onto, I think.
They do exist, but you're unlikely to find many male Free! fans.
I'm glad you at least watched one episode before making your comments.

Have you seen Love Live? Even though it is probably a more shonen series the core plot is about working hard and believing in each other with no romance whatsoever. I think this actually appeals to a lot of females when so many shojo animes tend to only focus on getting the guy, hot guy harems etc. I tend to gravitate to more plot heavy animes which are all mostly made for male audiences. I think animes can be enjoyed by either gender regardless of who they are made for.
I watched the first episode with a friend who was checking it out since he plays the game, but it really isn't my kind of thing (though I like a lot of the doujinshi, because it's cute and there's a lot of yuri and many other series don't get much in that department.) Ha, there might not be romance with a guy, but I get the impression there is some subtext between the girls, which is better anyway imo = w=

autumnlucks • 8 years ago • #2852332Yet again a very impressive purchase. I can only imagine the total amount for shipping, lol. My recent purchase had an expensive shipping quote ;_;
I really like that Nozomi figure, only because she's my favorite out of all the girls, lol!
Shipping wasn't too bad maybe about 10% of the total cost. I ship using SAL since I can wait for my figures. The Noizomi is really nice looking! Manda has her often she'll probably cost around $20-$30 with shipping.
debinoresu • 8 years ago • #2852718shirahoshi has to be my favorite from your loot, shes absolutely gorgeous! im not even a fan of one piece yet youve made me want her;;;
great lootpost!
Thank you! TBH, I'm not a fan of one piece either but Shirahoshi is really beautiful as a 'art' figure on her own. Wish you luck in finding her. If you can get her locally or from the same country it'll probably save you some $ since she is like $40-$50 shipping costs from Japan.
I wasn't aware there were so many female collectors interested in Love Live!, it seems to be so strongly male-targeted.
Offering my two cents below for your consideration.
